About:

This work was part of on of my circle related drawings. As often happens with such drawing that consists of many different concepts, I like the idea of this fragmented portrait and decided to give it its own separate project so I could play around with it.

Again this is from a time when I did not feel well and was struggling with an identity crisis regarding who I am and what to do with my future. I struggled a lot with the pressure of needing to actively build my future and not waste any time doing unproductive things.

This caused me to go numb and burn out for a while, it is funny that if I had taken the feelings that I poured into works like this more seriously I might have been able to seek help sooner.

Now I am doing much better, still on a journey of self-improvement but in a much healthier manner. This drawing and the others in the New Horizon series are all steps in my journey to improve my mental health and to attempt to help others as well. Especially proud of these ones.

below you can find the process of how I created this piece. I sketch out the self-portrait first, I like to keep to my own style and did not want to go for something too realistic. This is evident in the fact that my beard is much more impressive than in real life.

Then I worked on an interesting composition of how it could shatter into pieces. I looked for many different ways to break up the pieces in such a way that the end result would be fragmented but still clearly a recognizable self-portrait.

From there on there was the digital editing and playing with colours. I personally like the inverted version best since the white of the drawing pops really well against the black background. I hope you enjoy the insight and take care!
